The term Didactic, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is defined as "intended to teach something; especially a moral lesson". Didactic questions is popular as a pedagogical method of training and is favoured in classroom settings. Research provided by MIT showed that "classroom training with instructor" was chosen more often than any other method as the most effective for learning. This method can have its benefits when combined with other training methods in an adult learning environment. It is important to note when incorporating didactic activities into your teaching structure to ensure that it is not cumbersome with complex instructional material.
There are developed strategies for Effective Didactic teaching which will ensure that learning is maximised. The maximization of learning depends greatly on the students learning styles. One of the more commonly referred models is VARK: Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. These four modalities seem to reflect the experience of the students and the teachers (Fleming & Mills, 1992).
The style of questioning usually starts with "what, when, why and how" as prompts to gauging comprehension. As trainers it is important to ensure that you know your audience and incorporate the correct training method into your delivery.
